Police thwarted an attempt of an elderly woman to burn the image of President Serzh Sargsyan as protesters marched to the Genocide Memorial Tuesday evening in a show of protest against the government’s conciliatory policy on Turkey.
Parandzem Torozyan, mother of a Karabakh war participant killed in action, was one of several dozen participants in the event in which a symbolic burning of the controversial Armenia-Turkey protocols was held at Tsitsernakaberd. Her attempt to burn Sargsyan’s photograph was prevented by one of the police officers on duty to ensure public order.
